You’ll never run out of attractions to explore and enjoyable things to do in the Genting Highlands. Located an hour away from Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, it’s a must-see one-time experience for any traveller.
The cooler weather in the Genting Highlands makes it a favourite destination among Malaysians and Singaporeans who are trying to avoid the sweltering heat and humidity.
For people of all ages, from an indoor amusement park to natural attractions, Genting Highlands is a family-friendly holiday destination with more than enough entertainment and activities.
How to go Genting Highlands from Kuala Lumpur
Going to Genting Highlands by Public Bus

There are Genting Express Bus Service stations that offer direct trips up there, and you can find them in several locations, namely One Utama Shopping Mall (Petaling Jaya), Terminal Putra LRT Gombak, Pudu Sentral and KL Sentral.

This is the preferred mode of transportation for the droves of foreign tourists (many of whom have come from overseas to cross Genting off their vacation checklist).
The buses are usually fairly comfortable with air-conditioning and the trip doesn’t take terribly long anyway.
Driving route to Genting Highlands
Of course, the alternative option is to use your own vehicle to get up there. In fact, some people might prefer to drive up the hilly mountains to experience the cool air and picturesque ascending trail.
Check if your car is prepared and fit for an extreme upward climb because it can be pretty dangerous. To get there by car, you need to take the Kuala Lumpur – Gua Musang Highway (E33) route which can be found just after the Jalan Kuching Road or Route 1.
Awana Skyway Cable Car
One of the most popular attractions at Genting Highlands is the cable car ride – featuring a row of hanging gondolas secured by heavy-duty cable wires that stretch up to the very tip of the Highlands’ pinnacle.
It’s a great way to get an exciting view of the rolling hills and dense rainforest below.
Those who frequent the Highlands often make the cable car ride a necessity, although it’s possible to take your car or a bus straight up to the top (essentially missing out on one of the coolest parts of the trip altogether).
Awana Skyway is the main state-of-the-art cable car system that runs between 07:00 and 24:00 and takes about 10 minutes from Awana Station to SkyAvenue Station, which is linked directly to the SkyAvenue Shopping Center.
A one-way ticket is priced at RM8 per person for the regular gondola, while the glass-floor gondola is priced at RM50 per person. Alternatively, an express boarding pass can be purchased for RM 40.
Awana Skyway’s ticketing counters are located on level 2 of the building.
This cable car makes a short stop at Chin Swee Station, where you can disembark to visit Chin Swee Caves Temple of the same name at no additional cost.
Just make sure to keep your ticket to continue your ride up to Genting Highlands. If you are planning to stay at one of the many hotels in Genting, remember that when travelling on the Awana Skyway, you are allowed to bring one aircraft cabin-size bag per person.
Operating Hours: 7am to 12am Daily

Burger & Lobster Restaurant
There are plenty of restaurants to check out, but it’s worth noting that London’s must-eat classic Burger & Lobster Restaurant launched its first Asian branch at Sky Avenue in Genting Highlands.
Lovers of fine dining and great culinary delights may want to consider checking out this eatery.
Not only is fresh lobster shipped from Canada by air, but their Australian beef burger mixed with lobster meat is also one of the popular dishes to satisfy your mixed lobster and burger wishes.

Guests can enjoy a sumptuous main course with three main types of burgers; The Original, The Big Boy, and Chili Lobster. Steamed lobsters are served with lemon and garlic butter sauce, chips, and salad.
Also specially catered at this restaurant is its speciality, chilli lobster served in claypot and brioche. The menu shares a theme similar to the London Burger & Lobster restaurant that has mastered the technique of grilling and serving lobster.
The restaurant’s burgers are also on offer. These range from the B&L Burger that features 224gm’s of Australia’s highest quality beef topped with lobster meat.
The Mayfair is also available, which has 168gm of beef wrapped in a custom baked sesame seed brioche bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato, house-made pickles, onions, and B&L sauce.
Things to do in Genting Highlands
Take a walk and go exploring
As funny as it sounds, many Malaysians often flock to this famous highland spot on the regular without spending much on the vast array of attractions.
Instead, they come up here just to bask in the cool air and mist which are in stark contrast to the damp and hot climate that Malaysia’s known for.
That’s right, tons of people drive (or ride bikes) all the way up here to basically just chill – taking long walks around the prominent compounds between the hotels and malls, or passing time in the parks or the outdoor seating areas.
What’s more, Genting is such a wonderful mishmash of luxurious development and natural splendour, that just exploring the many corners and sections of the large highland attraction as a whole can be a treat in and of itself.
